Boxboard

 Cereal, detergent, shoe boxes, etc.

 Paper egg cartons, paper tubes, etc.

  Remove liners and plastic bags.  Flatten and place in a cardboard box or a paper or plastic bag on or beside your blue box.  Keep boxboard separate from newspapers and other household papers

 

Corrugated Cardboard

 Large boxes (used for moving or for large items)

 Flatten & tie into bundles no larger than 30"x30"x8" and place beside your blue box

 

Newspapers, Magazines, & Household Paper

 Newspapers & flyers

 Magazines & catalogues

 Phone books & soft cover books

 Junk mail

 Office paper & envelopes

 Place in a paper or plastic bag on or beside your blue box.  Do not include manilla envelopes or envelopes with windows

 

HDPE  Plastic Containers

 Only small-mouth screw-top containers marked with a  on the bottom or side

 

Empty Aerosol & Paint Cans

 Containers must be empty

 Remove paint can lids and let air dry before placing in a blue box (with lids off)

 

Aluminum Trays & Foil

 Aluminum pie plates & aluminum trays

 Aluminum foil (clean)

 Crush into one tight bundle & place in your blue box

 

Metal Cans

 Metal food & beverage cans

 Rinse quickly - no need to remove labels

 Place lids inside a can & pinch closed

 

PET  Plastic Containers

 Only small-mouth screw-top containers marked with a  on the bottom or side.

 

Glass Bottles & Jars

 Food & beverage bottles and jars

 Remove lids and recycle with cans

 Rinse quickly - no need to remove labels

RECYCLING #3 TO 7 PLASTICS

Starting in June 2010, residents will be able to recycle plastics with numbers 3 to 7.  Drop-off bins will be located at the Montague Township complex at 6547 Roger Stevens Drive and available weekdays between 7:30 am and 3:00 pm. 

# 3 – (PVC) - cooking oil bottles, juice bottles, cling films, PVC piping

#4 – (LDPE) - frozen food bags, flexible container lids, squeezable ketchup and mustard bottles

#5 – (PP) - reusable microwaveable wares, yogurt containers, margarine tubs, disposable cups, plates, & take-away containers

#6 – (PS) - egg cartons, styrofoam containers, packing peanuts

#7 – other plastics, which include: fast food beverage containers, baby bottles, cell phones, CDs, electronics casings, sports water bottles

LARGE ITEM DROP-OFF DAY

When: 
  Twice a year.  Dates are posted on the homepage of the Township website under 'News'  and in the Montague Messenger March and August issues.

Where:  Township of Montague Municipal Yard

Time:     8:00 am - 4:00 pm

Acceptable Items:  white metals, furniture, scrap metal, propane tanks, air conditioners etc...

Please note:  trash tags or equivalent monetary value is required for the above items as per By-law 2258-95.  There is no charge for e-waste.

Twenty-Twelve Electronics Recycling Inc. accepts electronics for recycling - computers, computer accessories (modems and routers), televisions, printers, monitors, keyboards, audio and video players, cameras, copiers, pagers, radios, telephones, typewriters etc.   Note: there is a charge for some items, eg. microwaves.  For more information, please call 613-284-2424 or visit their website at www.tter.ca.

Household Hazardous Waste Depot

The Township partners with other municipalities in Lanark County for a Household Hazardous Waste Depot.  Household hazardous waste includes: paint, batteries, oil, cleaners, aerosol cans, anti-freeze, etc.  There is also a paint exchange at the depot.  In addition, the depot is now accepting fluorescent tubes (4ft max.) and CFLs.  The Depot is in Carleton Place and is open Saturdays from June-September, 8 am to noon.
 
Directions:  At the intersection of Hwy 15 and Hwy 7, turn right (going east on Hwy 7).  Turn left at the first set of lights - McNeely Avenue (Tim Hortons is on the left).  Turn left onto Patterson Crescent and follow the signs from there.

Tires

Tires can be dropped off at hank's Tire, GIM or AutoTech in Smiths Falls free of charge during business hours only.

Paint in original can, household batteries, CFLs

These items may be returned to the Rona Cashway store in Smiths Falls.
