· Park any vehicle upon any highway or boulevard under the jurisdiction of the Township of Montague between the hours of midnight and 7 a.m.

· Park or stand a vehicle in such a manner as to impede the clearing of snow from Township roadways

Any vehicle parked in contravention of this Bylaw will be towed away at the owner’s expense and the owner shall be subject, upon summary conviction, to a fine.

Pursuant to the Highway Traffic Act, it is an offence to:

· Plow or shovel snow from private driveways across or onto Township roadways

Homeowners will be charged for violation of this act.

Montague Township has adopted the provincial  Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways Reg. 239/02 as the standard for year-round Township road maintenance.  These benchmarks were adopted under the Municipal Act to standardize levels of service for various classes of roads throughout the province. They also specify reasonable response times to maintain or correct deficiencies on the roadways, depending upon their class.  Provincial, county and municipal roads are classified differently within these standards, based on posted or statutory speed limit and annual average daily traffic.

Winter maintenance activities and priorities are based on the roadway classification and the associated level of service, as well as legislated hours of work, manpower and the municipal budget.

WARNING: Garbage cans and blue boxes should not be placed on the shoulder of the roads where they can be damaged, cause damage to Township vehicles or, worse, injure drivers. Please ensure that your bins and bags are placed in your driveway, near your mailbox or on your property on collection day.

Protect your  mailbox Often, when a mailbox is damaged, it is because plowed snow accumulates in front of it, causing increasing weight and pressure against it over the course of the winter.  It is the resident’s responsibility to keep the area around the mailbox clear of snow. The Township of Montague is not responsible for damage to mailboxes or newspaper boxes. Parked vehicles that may interfere with the snow-plowing of Township roads will be removed at the owner’s expense.
